Civil War Book Review Assignment
For your book review you will be reading one of the following books. While it is possible to read a different book, you MUST clear that book with me prior to reading it. I have tried to use books that are respected for their literary content and/or have been acknowledged with some award or citation. All of the texts below are works of historical fiction and should be read that way. Your assignment is to write a 700-word book review. You should use the first 500 words, no more than that, to describe what the book is about. This will require balance as well as precision in your writing. The last 200 words should be your analysis of how well the writer did in recreating the historical place and time that s/he wrote about. Here you should draw on the knowledge that you have built up in the course. While historians use quotes to give validity and authenticity to their work the use of quotes in this type of assignment should be done with great prudence. |
